I'm listening to the "State of the Union Address" by Bush. I wish I were motivated to watch any address given for India. I read that the governments wpproval rating have gone up. Good..sometime back I was all for BJP. But now I don't know who's in the BJP. Shibu Soren's apparently gotten some more time. 7 witnesses have died int he process of his trial and the rest have turned hostile. don't we have some sort of witness protection law. I'm guessing not. Not in UP for sure. UP what a shame. The nithari case is just so horrific, and all mulayam is worried about is how it will affect his party's standing. TRAI has brought roaming costs down. I guess that's good. Maybe more long distance relationship will work out now. I couldn't care. My friend srinivas has let me use his Wall street online account and I'm fairly regular in devouring it. Not my mention of India. I think it's been forgotten. Many talks I attend, say India is no longer a contestant in the next "superpower". I interacted with the chinese and I know the indians are no match. Why? because we are not patriotic enough. You have people like me writing disillusioned posts like this. People I know ashamed of their Indian Passport. It brings nothing but trouble. India- the country of 1.2 billion that at one point had lesser gold medal tally than singapore in the Asian Games. I think we beat them in the end. But i had to face my friends when that news flashed. Indians always looking for a way out of the country. I came here for a better system of education. I am ashamed of the education system in India. Where you don't have the freedom to choose what you want to study. I have come across singaporeans who have a degree in computer science, economics and philosophy..while I learnt how to by hart last minute. Chinese and Indian engineers are replacing the fast depleting american engineers. Good..they need us. Lets all go.
I read out Tagore poem to my friend the other day. I type it out here. I'm sure we've all studied it. Even Shibu Soren. Even Manu Sharma. Even the Serial Killer in the Nithari Case. After all he's a history major form Stephen's. Read it and see if how you feel about it. I remember another poem I studied at school. By Henry Loius Vivian Derozio-"To India-my native Land". I can't find it on the net. But that should become our motto now. Movies like Rang de basanti inspire us temporarily. Tomorrow we go to give our GRE. A change is what we need. A change..when will it come? Do something yourself, you say. I'm thinking what. But I definitely will one day. Hope that day comes soon.
Here's that hope that Tagore had for us. Look at us now...

WHERE the mind is without fear and the head is held high
Where knowledge is free
Where the world has not been broken up into fragments
By narrow domestic walls
Where words come out from the depth of truth
Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection
Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way
Into the dreary desert sand of dead habit
Where the mind is led forward by thee
Into ever-widening thought and action
Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake.

Rabindranath Tagore

Comments:
i am reading your blog after a long time...

nice to see these thoughts going through your mind. to be frank these issues confronting India should pass through every Indians mind and more so our generations'.
but everybody is so caught up in their own small world, temporary achievements and failures that we lose focus ( or rather don't want to make the effort to see) as to where we are heading as a nation.
we could discuss this endlessly but i guess i better refrain from it cause giving suggestions without actually implementing them with sincerity is the INDIAN way of solving any problem ...
bala.
