How do you measure a teacher's worth?
In India, the NGO Centre for Civil Society is pushing for more competition in the education sector and simultaneously, a pay by performance method to improve the quality of teaching.
A product of St Stephen's College Delhi I didn't see many good teachers. May be they were good, and I was a bad Student.
In Singapore, I cannot but thank everyday to have got such dedicated teachers that make me appreciate the subject much much more. But you have to hand it to Singapore cause they never compromise on pay to get quality.
An article discussing whether teachers are overpaid in America makes an interesting read.
